GULFPORT, Miss. | Grambling State's run in the 2025 SWAC Softball Tournament came to an end on Wednesday evening, as the Lady Tigers fell 4-3 to Texas Southern in an elimination game at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
Grambling rallied to tie the game in the fifth and threatened in the seventh, but a walk-off single gave Texas Southern the edge.
With the loss, Grambling State closes the season at 17-30 overall.
After a weather delay pushed first pitch back more than seven hours, Grambling State took the field with urgency.
Texas Southern struck first in the bottom of the third, but Grambling responded with a run in the fourth when
Katelynn Walls scored on a sacrifice fly from
Cadashia Collins to tie the game at 1-1.
Texas Southern answered with two runs in the bottom half to go ahead 3-1, but the Lady Tigers fought back.
In the top of the fifth,
Kendyll Turpeau scored on an RBI triple by Walls, who then came home on a throwing error to tie the game at 3-3.
Grambling had chances late, including a leadoff single from
Christalyn Higgins in the seventh and a runner on third with two outs but the Tigers could not capitalize.
Chloe Wilson started in the circle and pitched four innings, allowing three runs on six hits.
Audrey Richardson (7-11) took the loss, giving up one run on three hits over the final 2.1 innings.
Offensively,
Tavia Leadon led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, while Walls had a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.
