Grambling State Secures First Win of 2025 With Shutout Over Nicholls

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State women's soccer secured its first win of the 2025 season with a dominant 3–0 victory over Nicholls State (0-1) on Sunday morning at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Liana Bryant opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing off a build-up that included assists from Olivia Kowall and Sophia Lezizidis.

The Tigers carried that 1–0 advantage into the halftime break after outshooting the Colonels 10–2 in the first 45 minutes.

Grambling State (1-0-1) wasted little time adding to its lead in the second half. 

Alana Aiken doubled the advantage in the 54th minute, slotting home a pass from Lezizidis with an additional assist from Chloe Bryant.

Just over a minute later, Kowall found the back of the net in the 55th minute off a setup from Whitney Walker

The goal sealed the Tigers 3–0 win.

The Grambling defense was anchored by Kaylen Jankans, Taya Sands, and Cariana Pou. They controlled the back line and kept Nicholls in check with only four shots.

Goalkeeper Kaia Bace earned the win in net with one save in 76 minutes of action, while Jaliyah Clark closed out the final 14 minutes to complete the shutout.

Nicholls picked up its lone caution in the 78th minute, while Grambling held steady defensively to record its first clean sheet of the season.
