MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Grambling State softball went 1-1 on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Lincoln (Pa.) before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory over Alabama State in the nightcap.
In the opener, Grambling was limited to just two hits in a 3-1 loss to Lincoln (Pa.).
The Lions struck early with an RBI single from Jordin Cathey in the first inning and added insurance runs in the third and fourth to build a 3-0 advantage.
The Tigers broke through in the fifth when
Alexis Hope singled to center field to score
Z'Natria Evans.
However, Grambling could not generate additional offense as Lincoln pitcher Cathey tossed a complete game allowing just two hits.
Jaidan Richard took the loss in the circle, while
Zoe Roland provided solid relief holding Lincoln hitless over the final 4.1 innings despite issuing six walks.
Grambling responded in the second game with a gritty 3-2 win over Alabama State.
The Hornets struck first in the opening inning, but the Tigers answered in the third when
Kamryn Broussard tripled to right center to score
Katelynn Walls
Tavia Leadon followed with a RBI single to give Grambling a 2-1 lead.
Alabama State evened the score in the sixth, but Grambling delivered the decisive blow in the seventh.
Hailei Harrell lifted a sacrifice fly to left field bringing home
Logan-Ray Gaspar for the go-ahead run.
Harrell (2-2) was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing two runs on seven hits with one strikeout.
Broussard and Leadon paced the offense with two hits each as Grambling totaled seven hits, highlighted by triples from Broussard and Gaspar.
