Grambling Falls at ULM in Midweek Matchup, 19-9

MONROE, La. | Grambling State dropped a midweek contest at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday afternoon, falling 19-9 at Lou St. Amant Field. The Tigers moved to 3-5 on the season, while ULM improved to 4-5.

ULM jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding five more in the second to build an 8-0 advantage. The Warhawks continued to apply pressure in the third and fourth innings, pushing the lead to 11-0 through four frames.

GSU broke through in the top of the fifth with a six-run rally. Aidan Lopez and Chris Marcellus opened the inning with walks, and Martavius Thomas reached on an error to load the bases. Ryan Davis delivered an RBI single to get the Tigers on the board, and Trey Bridges drew a bases-loaded walk to plate another run. Shannon Martin followed with a sacrifice fly, and Cameron Hill added an RBI single. Julio Vasquez Sanzsole was hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive, and Hasani Johnson and Lopez each drove in runs to cap the six-run surge and cut the deficit to 11-6.

ULM responded with a big sixth inning, scoring seven runs to stretch the lead to 18-6. Grambling State answered again in the seventh, plating three runs. Martin was hit by a pitch and Hill singled to start the inning, and Vasquez Sanzsole drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Lopez followed with another sacrifice fly, and Dillon Braxton singled home Johnson to trim the deficit to 18-9.

The Warhawks added one more run in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Hill led GSU at the plate, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Lopez finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two walks, while Davis went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Braxton added an RBI single off the bench, and Martin and Bridges each drove in a run as well.

On the mound, Mohamed Harati (0-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs in the first inning. The Tigers used six pitchers in the contest, with Shaun Mante Jr., Rafael Capistran and Nick Robinson also seeing action out of the bullpen.

Grambling State travels to Baton Rouge, La. to face Northeastern. The game will take place at LSU's Alex Box Stadium with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
