JACKSON, Miss. | Grambling State split a Sunday doubleheader at Jackson State, falling in the opener 10–6 before bouncing back with a 15–12 offensive surge over Alabama A&M to close the day.
Grambling got off to a strong start against Jackson State, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Kamryn Broussard doubled to bring home Katelynn Walls, and Cadashia Collins followed with a run-scoring double of her own.
The Tigers added four more runs over the third and fourth innings, including a sacrifice fly from Tavia Leadon and an RBI single by Walls, to take a 6–3 lead.
Offensively, Grambling tallied nine hits, led by Walls (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Broussard (1-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI).
Doubles were a theme with six on the day from Walls, Broussard, Collins, Gaspar, Donaldson, and Harrell.
Malaysia Ponder and Leadon each drove in a run, while Gaspar and Harrell contributed offensively with timely extra-base hits.
In the circle, Hailei Harrell pitched 5.1 innings, allowing nine runs (8 earned) on 9 hits with one strikeout, while Zoe Roland relieved briefly.
Jackson State capitalized late scoring six runs in the final two innings to secure the 10–6 win.
Grambling rebounded in the nightcap, facing an early 7-run deficit in the first inning.
The Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and never stopped, scoring in four consecutive innings to outlast Alabama A&M in a high-scoring affair.
Ziya Donaldson led the charge with a home run and four RBIs, while Z'Natria Evans also went deep and added two RBIs.
Broussard contributed three runs scored, and Tavia Leadon and Hailei Hughes drove in key runs to keep the Tigers in the game.
Grambling finished with 14 hits, including multiple doubles from Broussard and Hughes.
On the mound, Zoe Roland earned the win in relief, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits with one walk.
