Hill Homers Twice in GSU's 19-4 Rout of Alabama A&M

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State erupted offensively and never looked back, cruising to a 19-4 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.

The Tigers (7-14, 4-1 SWAC) scored in six of their seven at-bats, highlighted by a five-run fourth inning and a six-run sixth inning, to secure the run-rule win over the Bulldogs (7-19, 2-4 SWAC).

After Alabama A&M plated a run in the top of the first, Grambling responded immediately with a four-run bottom half. Cameron Hill jumpstarted the rally with a two-run double, and Charles Ashe III followed with a two-run double of his own to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

GSU continued to build momentum in the second inning as Hill delivered again, blasting a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 6-1. The Tigers added another run in the third when Hasani Johnson laced an RBI double to push the lead to 7-1.

The fourth inning put the game firmly out of reach. Grambling State capitalized on free passes and defensive miscues, plating five runs on just one hit. Shannon Martin and Chris Marcellus each drove in runs during the frame, while two additional runs scored on an AAMU error to stretch the lead to 12-2.

GSU's offense continued its onslaught in the fifth and sixth innings. Marcellus added an RBI double in the fifth, and the Tigers exploded for six runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homer from Julio Vasquez and another two-run blast from Martin. Hill capped his standout performance with a two-run double in the inning as Grambling pushed the margin to 19-2.

Hill led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs scored. Ashe finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Martin drove in three runs. Marcellus contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Vasquez added two RBIs, including his home run.
