GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State Tigers softball team fell to Texas Southern, 8–1, in a weather-shortened contest on Saturday morning at the GSU Softball Complex.
Due to multiple weather delays the game was called in the top of the sixth inning.
Texas Southern struck early in the opening inning, plating two runs to take a quick 2–0 lead.
Karisma Garcia delivered an RBI double before Lanay Carr followed with an RBI triple to extend the advantage.
The Tigers added to their lead in the third inning when Garcia launched a two-run home run pushing the score to 4–0.
Texas Southern continued to apply pressure in the fourth inning scoring on a sacrifice fly by Marisa Perla to extend the margin to 5–0.
Grambling State broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Z'Natria Evans doubled to drive in
Kayliana Cash cutting the deficit to 5–1.
Texas Southern responded with three runs in the fifth inning.
Dania Durr singled in a run before Perla reached on an error that allowed two additional runs to score, extending the lead to 8–1 before the game was ultimately called.
Cadashia Collins led Grambling State at the plate, going 2-for-2.
Evans finished 1-for-2 with an RBI double while
Ahsunte' Specks and
Kamryn Broussard each recorded a hit.
Zoe Roland (3-4) took the loss in the circle for the Tigers after allowing five runs on 11 hits across four innings.
Jaidan Richard pitched one inning in relief surrendering three runs.
Texas Southern's Kylie Wilson (3-0) earned the win allowing one run on five hits while striking out three over five innings.
Grambling State finished the contest with five hits.

Grambling State returns to action on Tuesday when the Tigers host Northwestern State at the GSU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
