Tigers Fall 12-0 at No. 4 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. | Grambling State was held to two hits and could not slow a steady Mississippi State offense in a 12-0 loss Tuesday evening at Dudy Noble Field.

The Tigers (9-18) managed baserunners in four innings but were unable to break through, while the fourth-ranked Bulldogs (25-4) struck early with three runs in the first and continued to add on throughout the game.

Trey Bridges reached base twice and recorded one of Grambling State's two hits, also swiping his first stolen base of the season. James Woody collected the other hit with a leadoff single in the seventh.

Mississippi State capitalized on early miscues to take control. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run double from Ryder Woodson. Mississippi State extended its lead to 5-0 in the second before adding single runs in the third and fourth and a three-run fifth.

Andrew Raymond pushed the lead to double digits with a solo home run to center field in the fifth, one of nine hits on the night for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs drew seven walks and were hit by five pitches, helping fuel their scoring output.

Grambling State starter Trevor Esparza (1-2) took the loss after allowing three runs in the first inning. Rafael Capistran, Trenton Shaw, Payton Allen, Jacobie Smith, Mohamed Harati and Kejuan Burnett all saw time in relief. Harati delivered the Tigers' strongest inning of the night, retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth.

Grambling State's best scoring chance came in the sixth when Bridges singled and Hasani Johnson reached on a walk, but a strikeout ended the threat. The Tigers also moved a runner to third in the first inning after a stolen base and throwing error, but Mississippi State escaped unharmed.

The Bulldogs used six pitchers, none working more than two innings. Jack Bauer (2-0) earned the win in relief after striking out three over 1.1 hitless frames.
