BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State track and field team opened competition at the 2026 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with several strong performances, highlighted by a gold medal effort from freshman
Carson Lowe in the men's javelin.
Lowe captured the conference title with a winning throw of 64.33 meters (211-00) setting the top HBCU mark of the season and moving into the top 90 nationally in Division I competition.
Dillon Houston added a seventh-place finish in the men's javelin with a HBCU 11th best throw of 51.80 meters (169-11).
On the women's side,
Kimora McLemore led the Tigers in the javelin with a fourth-place finish after recording a mark of 37.60 meters (123-04).
Madison Holloway followed in fifth place with a season-best throw of 33.60 meters (110-03).
In the women's long jump,
Shamya Joiner paced Grambling State with an eighth-place finish and a season-best leap of 5.84 meters (19-02.00).
Jazmine Carraway narrowly followed in ninth at 5.83 meters (19-01.50), while
Angel Sanders placed 11th with a season-best mark of 5.79 meters (19-00.00).
Aidan Starling scored for the Tigers in the men's 10,000 meters, placing seventh with a time of 42:21.54.
Grambling State also posted several qualifying and strong preliminary performances on the track.
Leterance Fleming advanced in the men's 400-meter hurdles after clocking 54.06 in the prelims.
In the throws,
Jonathan Berry recorded a personal-best mark of 43.71 meters (143-05) in the hammer throw.
Jean de Dixon added a season-best throw of 43.07 meters (141-03).
