BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State track and field team continued competition on the second day of the 2026 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Monday, turning in a series of solid performances across both the track and field events.
In the women's shot put,
Deserae Charles had 14th place finish after recording a mark of 12.18 meters.
On the men's side,
Jaylen Mays paced Grambling State in the shot put with a throw of 14.87Â meters to place 8th overall.
Jalen Peel followed in 10th at 14.69 meters, while
Jonathan Berry added a mark of 13.78 meters.
In the women's 400-meter prelims, Deasia Washington finished fourth in her heat with a time of 1:00.35.
Mykala Williams followed with a time of 1:01.54 in her heat.
On the men's side of the 400-meter prelims,
Elijah Simmons clocked 50.52 to finish third in his heat.
In distance action
Aidan Starling placed seventh in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking 11:49.36 which ranks No. 27 among HBCU performances.
Grambling State also saw strong middle-distance performances, as Y'Neise Colbert finished 12th in the women's 800-meter prelims with a time of 2:20.08 a personal best.
Justin Greenwood posted a time of 1:53.93 in the men's 800-meter prelims.
