Grambling State Closes Regular Season with Loss at BCU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Grambling State baseball wrapped up the 2026 regular season on Saturday evening, falling 12-1 to Bethune-Cookman at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Grambling State concluded the regular season with a 21-30 overall record and an 18-12 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

Bethune-Cookman (37-18, 23-7)  used a nine-run first inning to seize momentum early and never looked back. The Wildcats collected six hits in the opening frame while taking advantage of three hit batters and an error to build a sizable lead.

Despite the early deficit, the Tigers continued to compete and generated scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

Aidan Lopez recorded Grambling State's first hit of the game with a single to left field in the opening inning. Charles Ashe III later added a double to right field in the second inning, while Shannon Martin followed with a single to put runners on the corners.

Grambling State broke through in the fourth inning. Cameron Hill led off the frame with a single up the middle and later scored when Martin delivered an RBI single through the middle to cut the deficit to 10-1.

Martin paced the Tigers offensively, going 2-for-3 with the team's lone RBI. Lopez and Hill each added hits, while Ashe produced Grambling State's only extra-base hit with his second-inning double.

Payton Allen (3-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers. Shaun Mante, Hampton Phillips, Trenton Shaw and Nick Robinson all appeared in relief. Robinson provided solid work late, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.

Bethune-Cookman finished with 11 hits and was led by Darryl Lee, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three stolen bases. Erick Almonte added two RBIs, while Sergio Rivera drove in two runs.

Tanner Boccabello (6-0) earned the victory after allowing one run on five hits across four innings.
