Grambling State Baseball Prepares for Senior Day Weekend versus FAMU

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team is set to open a pivotal three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) home series versus Florida A&M. The games will be the final home series of the season for the Tigers. 

Due to inclement weather, the teams will open with a Saturday doubleheader at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on the campus of Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. beginning at 1 p.m. The series finale will be at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park on Sunday. That game is senior day and will also start at 1 p.m.

Grambling State (16-26 overall, 13-8 SWAC) looks to gain ground in the SWAC race for the postseason tournament. GSU currently sits tied with Alabama State in fourth place. Florida A&M (21-29, 16-5) is tied for third with Texas Southern. 

The Tigers enter this weekend's series following a series win at Alcorn State last weekend. GSU too two or three games. 

Grambling State is led at the plate by infielders Aidan Lopez and Charles Ashe III. Lopez is currently batting a team-leading .338 with 32 RBI. He has 11 extra base hits with five doubles, five triples and one homer. 

Ashe has provided power at the dish with a SWAC-leading nine home runs. He also batting .328 with 45 RBI to go along with five doubles and a triple. 

One the mound, projected game one starter Keyon Guillory leads the starting rotation with a 3-2 record and a 4.74 ERA in 12 starts. He's stuck out 48 batters in 57.0 innings of work. As a unit, 

FAMU comes into the weekend after dropping two of three games to SWAC leader Bethune-Cookman. The Rattlers avoided a sweep by beating the Wildcats 15-13 on Sunday.

Florida A&M boasts one of the top pitching staffs in the conference, ranking second in ERA (5.77). 

Jackson McKenzie leads the Rattlers at the plate batting .387 with 25 RBI. He has nine doubles, five homers and one triple.
