Elliott Jones begins his first season as assistant coach under James Cooper and the Grambling State University baseball program.
Jones, a native of Shreveport, La., spent the past five seasons at Southern University “2013-2018” under legendary coach Roger Cador for four seasons a one season under Kerrick Jackson. During Jones time at Southern university he over saw the duties of the Jaguars day to day operations, recruiting hitters, outfielders, and catchers. Jones also played a vital role in fundraising, program budgets, travel, and equipment. He also directed camps and showcases. His brother Kyle Jones is an assistant coach on the men’s basketball team here as well.
During his time at Southern, he helped build the Jaguars with competitive teams. In the five years Jones had a chance to coach a few All Conference selection such as Brian Rowry (2013), Tyler Kirksey (2014), Lance Jones (2015), Santos Saldivar (2015), Jose DelaTorre (2016), Dondrayas Harris (2016), and John Pope (2018) just to name a few. Among the highlights was Lance Jones a 2015 second team member was selected in the 35 round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Santos Saldivar was a free agent signee with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jones earned his bachelor degree from Southern University and his master’s degree from Louisiana State University. Some of his off the field activities include being a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, an active member in his community and church.
