Eric Marty is in his first year as the Offensive Coordinator & Quarterbacks Coach at Grambling State University.
Marty comes to the Tigers after serving as the head coach and offensive coordinator at Reedley Junior College where he took the program from an inherited probation and the brink of cancelation to back-to-back 10-1 seasons in 2018 & 2019.
In Marty’s final two seasons, Reedley posted a 20-2 record (Best Winning Percentage Out of 68 Teams in California), two conference titles, reached a pair of bowls and won the 2019 American Championship Bowl. The 2019 team ranked fourth in Scoring Offense in the State (45.7 ppg) and 10th in yards per game (438.7).
He helped recruit and develop a total of 15 All-Conference Selections and Conference Defensive Conference Player of the Year. In addition, Marty was also named 2019 Golden Coast Conference Coach of the Year and CCCAA Region II Coach of the Year. Tigers starting quarterback Bubba Hickson was second in the state in completion percentage (66.5) and quarterback rating (176.2) and finished the year with 20 touchdown passes to just three interceptions. More than 20 players from the team would go on to sign with four-year programs.
In 2018, Marty led Reedley to their first undefeated regular season in school history. The Tigers offense led the state in third-down conversion percentage (48%), was 10th in rushing yards per game (204.8), and 11th in rush yards per attempt (4.9).
The 2018 team captured the Golden Coast Conference championship for the first time since 2009 and was led by the stellar 2017 recruiting class. The Tigers also boasted the best defense in the conference, the number five-ranked offense in the state and were at or near the top of the state in nearly every offensive category. The Tigers were selected to the play in the American Conference Championship Bowl, where they fell to De Anza College. Five players were named to the Golden Coast All-Conference Team, and quarterback Randal Johnson was selected as the Golden Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and Coach Marty was named Golden Coast Conference Coach of the Year. Three Tigers were also selected to the All-Region Team.
Marty’s rebuilding process began prior to the 2016 season, which had just nine players on the roster. He coordinated the offense and coached the offensive line as the 2016 team finished 1-9. However, four players were named to the Golden Coast All-Conference Team, and freshmen offensive linemen Deiontae Long was named to the All-Region Team. Two players signed to NCAA Division I, sophomore Artis Johnson (Marshall University) and sophomore Anthony Nash (New Mexico State University).
In 2017, Marty’s second year at Reedley, the foundation was laid and the team steadily improved, going 4-6 in conference play. He continued to coordinate the offense and coached the quarterbacks.
Before accepting the Reedley head coach position, Marty served as the head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach at East Los Angeles College in 2015. At ELAC, he helped rebuild the program, revamping facilities and the roster, and leaving the foundation for ELAC’s conference championship in 2016.
Prior to ELAC, Marty was the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks, and receivers coach at Moorpark College.
Marty took Moorpark’s offense from 64th in the state to 14th in just two years. He coached six All-Conference players and helped TE Cody Tuttle earn a scholarship to NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan University, and WR Ray Bolden earn a scholarship to NCAA Division I Stony Brook University. Bolden went on to be a two-time all-conference selection at Stony Brook and sign as an undrafted free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018.
Marty received his first collegiate coaching job in 2012 at NCAA Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he served as the receivers coach and was promoted to special teams coordinator.
Prior to his foray into coaching collegiate football Marty served as tight ends and receivers coach (2009) and then the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks, and receivers coach (2011, 2010) at his alma mater Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood, Wash. Meadowdale went 11-1 in 2009 and 2011, reaching the quarterfinals of the Washington State 3A state playoffs. Additionally, he coached tight end Connor Hamlett who would go on to become the all-time tight ends receptions leader at Oregon State University and play in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys.
