Grambling Cracks Top 25, Warren Dances Onto Payton Watch List

The G-Men are back in the Top 25

Grambling, LA ---The Grambling State University Football team cracked this week's Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 list debuting in the 23rd spot; while running back Frank Warren makes his way onto the Walter Payton Award watch list as announced by The Sports Network.

The G-Men make the Top 25 list for the first time since 2008 when they finished the season tied with Holy Cross at 25th spot.  This comes after a 35-14 win over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Saturday in Greenville, Mississippi. The Tigers landed on the list with 453 votes. Grambling is also number one in the Sheridan Broadcasting Black College Network and number two in the Heritage Radio Sport Black College Football polls.

Warren, the first Tiger to make the Walter Payton Award watch list since Bruce Eugene in 2005, has 1,142 yards on the season and is Grambling's first thousand yard rusher since 2001; while on pace to pass  Eric Gant's school record for yards in a season (1,417, 1992) and in a career (3,795).  “Sweet Feet” as he has been called by coaches and players, is well on his way to breaking several rushing records along with passing Walter “Sweetness” Payton to become fifth overall on the SWAC all-time rushing list.

Warren, a 5-9, 200 pound senior, was also named the Louisiana Sports Writer's Offensive Player of the week. Warren racked up 209 yards on 27 carries Saturday against Mississippi Valley.  He scored two touchdowns on 85-yard and 39-yard runs.

“Sweet Feet” and the G-Men travel to Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend to take on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for the Delta Literacy Classic in the War Memorial Stadium. The contest will begin at 1:30 PM.
