Tigers Hold Off Golden Lions, Sweet Feet Passes Payton

G-Men are 7-0 in Southwestern Athletic Confernce Play
Grambling, LA---The Grambling State Tigers took one step closer to 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game as they remained perfect in conference play with a, 35-25, win over the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Delta Classic for Literacy.

The Golden Lions, who were held to a minus one yard in rushing, got out to an early lead connecting on a 46 yard Chris Ewald field goal with 6:53 in the first quarter, followed by a three-yard touchdown run by Adrian Moore (Ewald, PAT) to open the second quarter.

The rest of the half, however, would belong to Grambling as they reeled off 28 unanswered points to close out the half. Quarterback Anthony Carrothers delivered air mail to Mario Louis for a 73 yard score (Zoltan Riazzo, PAT) to put the G-Men on the board.

Down, 10-7 Walter Payton Award Candidate, Frank “Sweet Feet” Warren would use identical plays to find pay dirt twice on rushes of 15 and 8 yards respectively with Riazzo connecting on extra points. Trey Williams would pick up a Josh Boudreaux fumble (an incomplete backwards pass that laid on the ground) and streak 71 yards to the endzone (Riazzo, PAT) with 3:44 left in the quarter to give the Tigers a, 28-10 lead at the break.

On the opening drive of the second half Warren would take a left toss up the GSU sideline six-yards to pass Walter Payton as fifth on the SWAC career rushing list. He would go on to cap off the historic drive as he walked into the endzone untouched from five yards out (Riazzo, PAT) to end the Tigers scoring for the game and seal Grambling's seventh consecutive win.

Boudreaux would connect on an 80-yard scoring play to Raymond Webber (Ewald, PAT) and a two-yard dump to T. Shelton, Jr. (Moore rush, two-point conversion) in a failed comeback attempt.

Warren finished the night with 95-yards on 21 carries with the three scores; he also had three receptions for 18 yards. Carrothers connected on 10-of-16 passes for 211 yards and a score. Cliff Exama led the defensive charge with six solo and five assisted tackles for a total of 11.

The Tigers return to action next weekend when they host Concordia College for Homecoming and Senior Night at 2:00 PM at Robinson Stadium.
