Cape Girardeau, MO. --- Raschard Boatner had ice in his veins; while
Justin Patton turned in his first double-double of the season as the Grambling State Tigers basketball team posted their first win of the season, 77-76, over the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State in an overtime thriller.
The Tigers shot 44-percent from the field and held a slight rebound edge, 19-17, as they led 37-29 at the break.
In the second half the Tigers pulled away by as many as 13 leading 50-37 with 11:50 remaining before the Redhawks went on a run to tie the game at 67 with eight seconds remaining when Leon Powell completed a three-point play with a jump shot and a free throw after being fouled by
Derron Hobbs.
In the overtime period it remained hotly contested and again came down to the free throw line. Boatner toed the line with the game tied at 76 and two-seconds remaining and made the first of his only two free throws of the evening. With the one point lead Boatner intentionally missed the second free throw and though SEMO's Zach House grabbed the defensive rebound there was no time remaining for the Redhawks to respond.
Patton led all scorers with 28 points. He also turned in 12 rebounds and five assists. Hobbs added 15 points with four rebounds while;
Lance Feurtado added nine points.
For the Redhawks, Powell had a team 18 points, Anthony Allison added 16 point and 10 rebounds.
