Grambling State's Season Comes to a Close, Falls to JSU 68-65

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. | The Grambling State men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday night with a 68-65 loss to seventh seed Jackson State in the second round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Tournament at Gateway Center Arena at College Park.

Grambling State concludes the season with a 14-19 overall record after a tightly contested matchup that featured multiple lead changes and remained within one possession late in the game.

Antonio Munoz led the Tigers with 14 points and went 6-for-9 from the free-throw line. Derrius Ward added 11 points and a team-high six assists, while Jamil Muttilib and Devyn Franklin each finished with 10 points.

Franklin also pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Roderick Coffee III contributed nine points, four rebounds and three steals, while Rickey Ballard chipped in nine points, hitting both of his attempts from beyond the arc.

GSU shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the field and connected on 6-of-15 shots from 3-point range. The Tigers were also solid at the free-throw line, converting 17-of-23 attempts, and forced 13 turnovers that led to 22 points.

Jackson State built a narrow 28-27 advantage at halftime as both teams struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm during the opening 20 minutes.

Grambling State shot better in the second half, knocking down 44.8 percent of its attempts, but Jackson State responded with timely baskets down the stretch to hold off the Tigers.

Jackson State was led by Jalen Tatum with 18 points, while Dorian McMillian added 15 points off the bench. Jackson State also held a 41-35 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive rebounds that created key second-chance opportunities.
