Tigers Grind Out Win in State Fair Classic

DALLAS---The Grambling State Tigers Football team took to the trenches tonight as they grinded out 288 yards on the ground en route to a, 34-17, victory over the Panthers of Prairie View A&M in the Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic.
 
Played in front of a lively crowd of 43,754 in Dallas's Cotton Bowl Stadium the G-Men fell behind 3-0 to begin the game before quarterback Anthony Carrothers' 11 yard run (Zoltan Riazzo, PAT Good) put Grambling up 7-3 mid way through the period.
 
After PVU's Donald Babers six-yard scoring run (Kyle Mathews, PAT Good) gave the Panthers a 10-0 lead to end the first, Grambling's Frank Warren pushed the Tigers ahead again on a two-yard dive (Riazzo, PAT Good) for the only score of the second quarter and a 14-10 lead at the break.
 
As the second half began the Panthers made their final attack when KJ Black found Shaun Stephens for a 17-yard touchdown strike (Mathews, PAT Good). On the ensuing possession Warren would once again stroke pay dirt this time on a 12 yard burst (Raizzo, PAT Blocked)
 
In the fourth quarter Kiara Thompson scored on a 59 yard pass from Carrothers (Riazzo, PAT Good); while Cornelius Walker sealed the win with a 66 yard dash down the Prairie View sideline for a touchdown (Riazzo, PAT Good).
 
The Tigers had six rushers combine for 288 yards led by Warren's 24 carried for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Walker had eight carries for 85 yards and a score; while Carrothers had six carries for 29 yards and a touchdown. The Tigers defense was led by Chris Exama's nine total tackles and a forced fumble. Derrick Johnson had eight tackles.
 
For the Panthers K.J. Black completed 20 of 32 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown. Defensively PVU's Chris Adingupu had nine tackles with a sack.
 
 The G-men return home for action September 16th when they welcome the Hornets of Alabama State.
