Williams Pleased With First Look of Tigers

Grambling State Head Football Coach Doug Williams Addresses Team
GRAMBLING---The Grambling State Tigers football team began their quest towards the 2011 Southwestern Athletic Championship this week as they kicked off spring practice under the guidance of new head coach Doug Williams.

The Tigers got back to basics in their first practices as Williams and his staff continues to assess his young group as well implement his new system. After a rough outing yesterday the G-Men responded renewed making strides in several areas today as they focused on individual drills and assignments.

“Coming out here today you can see that they picked it up a lot more and are a little more comfortable especially on offense because everything is new to them an entirely new system. On defense we are way ahead because Coach Yo (Yoshida) and Andre stayed on and you could really see those guys flying to the ball,” said Williams. “The offensive lineman showed what they are made of; they have some tenacity, watching the one on ones without pads are interesting.”

“Tomorrow when we put pads on we are really going to see what they are made of, said Williams.”

The Tigers will return to the practice field tomorrow at 3:45 PM. The annual Black and Gold Game is set for April 9th at 5:00PM in Robinson Stadium.
