Las Cruces, NM---The Lady Tigers Volleyball team continued to go through growing pains this past weekend as they went 0-3 in the Hotel Encanto Classic hosted by New Mexico State University.
In game one the Lady Tigers fell 14-25, 16-25 and 16-25 to the host New Mexico State. Grambling was led by
Tiara McIver with six kills and two blocks; while
Chelsee Goins added a kill and 10 digs. NMSU's Meredith Hays, Desiree Scott and Jocelyn Leichner had three kills each. Jennah Devries recorded 26 assists.
The second game of opening day saw Grambling drop a hard fought battle 7-25, 15-25 and 13-25 to the Lady Tigers of LSU. McIver once again paced GSU with five kills and two digs with Goins recording seven digs. LSU was led by Madi Mahaffey's 11 kills. Marissa Maas and Avery Striebel had 10 kills apiece.
On day two the Lady Tigers had their strongest showing of the tournament and began to come into their own though falling 16-25, 17-25 and 15-25 to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Dorothy Brown and McIver turned in eight kills and three digs each, while
MiKeya Edwards added five kills and six digs for Grambling. UALR's Edina Begic had 15 kills and six digs, while Sawyer Schaedig had 41assists.
Grambling (0-6) will return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Monroe to face the University of Louisiana-Monroe at 6PM in the ULM Activity Center.
