Grambling, La (May 24, 2012) – This past Tuesday Grambling State University lost another legend, Eugene “Doc” Harvey. Funeral arrangements for longtime Grambling trainer Eugene “Doc” Harvey have been finalized for this coming weekend. Visitation services for Harvey will be at 6 p.m. Friday evening at Miller Funeral Home located at 998 Woodward Avenue in Ruston. Funeral Services for Harvey will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Church of the Redeemer located at 504 Tech Drive in Ruston.
Harvey served as the trainer at GSU for more than three decades under the late legendary Head Coach Eddie Robinson. Harvey was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 1986 and into the Grambling Legends Hall of Fame in 2010. Harvey worked with the Brooklyn and later the Los Angeles Dodgers before coming to Grambling. While with the Dodgers he served as a trainer working with the Great Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella. Although he retired from the Grambling Athletic Department in 1998, he still served as not only a volunteer, but a mentor to the training staff of the GSU Athletic Department.
