Tigers Lose Tough Game to Southern

Box Score New Orleans, La – (November 30th 2013) – The Grambling State University Tiger Football team fell behind to Southern early and could not muster a comeback as the Grambling lost to the Jags by the score of 40-17 in the 40th Annual Bayou Classic in New Orleans.

The Jaguars got on the board first as Lenard Tillery capped off a 9 play 85 yard drive with a 4 yard touchdown run.  Southern would miss the PAT and the Jaguars had an early 6-0 lead.

The Tigers would get on the board in the opening stanza as Juan Vazquez would kick a 31 yard field goal and the Tigers cut the lead to 6-3.

Southern would dominate the second quarter scoring three touchdowns.  Quarterback Dray Joseph would pass for two touchdowns to Lee Doss, while Willie Quinn would run for another one and the Jaguars had a 27-3 lead at the half.

The Tigers would continue to fight as they would have the only score of the third quarter as Johnathan Williams would throw an 11 yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Robert Bailey and the Tigers would trail 27-10 at the end of the third.

Grambling would score another touchdown early in the fourth quarter as Williams would connect with Anthony McGhee and GSU only trailed by ten at 27-17.  That would be as close as the Tigers would get as the Jaguars would score 13 points in the final quarter and would win by the score 40-17.

The Tigers were led on offense by Johnathan Williams, who passed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.   Freshman Jestin Kelly led the rushing attack as he had 14 rushes for 60 yards.   The Tigers end the season 1-11 overall and 1-8 in SWAC play.
