GRAMBLING, Louisiana (February 19, 2013) – After a 16 inning marathon game against Northwestern State on Sunday, the Grambling State University (GSU) Baseball team will hit the road again to take on Mississippi State this afternoon at 4 p.m. These two teams will meet for the first time on the diamond.
The Tigers cut down on their mistakes in the last game against Northwestern, which did please the coaching staff. Grambling (0-3) is currently averaging six runs per game, but according to Head Coach
James Cooper they must have timely hitting. “We had too many men left on base in that game”, said Coach Cooper. “We made fewer errors than we did in the first two games against Northwestern so we improved on that, but we have to get runs in and take advantage of our opponent's mistakes”.
The Tigers out-slugged Northwestern over the weekend 28-26. GSU was led in hitting by shortstop
Juan Bueno (.294), who had five hits during the series against the Demons.
This is the fourth consecutive home game for Mississippi State (3-0) and the fourth consecutive road game for Grambing. The Bulldogs swept Portland during their first weekend series. Mississippi State is currently ranked at No. 5 in the latest Baseball America rankings and climbed to No. 12 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll.
