Box Score GRAMBLING, Louisiana (February 26, 2013) – The Grambling State University Baseball team lost their home opener to Stephen F. Austin by the score of 9-4 on Tuesday in Grambling.
The Lumberjacks struck first as they scored in the top of the third inning as the Tigers gave up an unearned run and trailed 1-0. In the bottom of the third inning
Korey Hall reached on a fielder's choice and
Juan Bueno grounded out to the short stop and knocked in Hall to tie the score at 1-1.
Kris Minter singled and eventually scored after a single by Jose Longoia and the Tigers took the lead at 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Tigers would score two more runs.
Korey Hall hit a one out RBI double and
Elias Todman would eventually score and the Tigers led by the score of 4-1.
Stephen F. Austin's bats would heat up as they scored four runs in the top of the fifth, one run in the sixth and three runs in the top of the ninth inning and they would go on to win by the score of 9-4.
Stephen F. Austin finished the game with nine runs, 13 hits and no errors. The Tigers had four runs off of eight hits and two errors.
Dionte Mandeldove led the way for the Tigers at the plate as he went two for four on the evening scoring one run.
Next up for the Tigers is their first Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Divisional series of the season against the Prairie View A&M Panthers. The double-header on Saturday in Houston begins at 12 noon and the final game of the series is at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
