Todman Selected as SWAC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year

Grambling Picked to Finish Third in the West

GRAMBLING, LA (February 7, 2013) – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its' pre-season baseball polls and All-Conference teams on Friday and the Grambling Tiger Baseball team was picked to finish third in the Western Division. 

The Tigers also had several players that made the All-Conference Teams.  GSU second baseman Elias Todman was named the SWAC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year and was First Team All-Conference.

In 2012, Todman was second in the conference in batting with a .344 average. The 6-3, senior from Bronx, NY had two home runs, three triples, nine doubles and 43 RBI. His RBI total ranked his tied for third in the SWAC. Todman was also tied for fourth in the league in hits with 62 and ranked seventh in total bases with 83.

Darren Farmer, who will be patrolling the outfield, was also named to the SWAC All-Conference First Team.  Farmer started all 48 games for the Tigers last season and batted .314 for the year.  He also had 58 hits last year, while hitting for a team high six home runs.

The Tigers also had four players named to the SWAC All-Conference Second Team.  They include; starting pitcher Matt Mitchell, catcher Jose Longoria, third baseman Hector Mejias, and outfielder Kris Minter.

The Tigers finished the 2012 campaign 13-15 in the SWAC West and 22- 26 overall and had the best team batting average in the entire conference (.288).  This year the Tigers have a lot of young faces, but they have several players returning, who will make a great impact.
