GSU Baseball Split a Pair with Texas Southern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, Louisiana (March 29, 2013) – The Grambling State University Tiger Baseball team split a pair of games with Texas Southern on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers took game one against Texas Southern by the score of 4-3.  Texas Southern got on the board in the first inning when Sebastian Stargell hit a two run home run making the score 2-0.

The Tigers would take advantage of a couple of Texas Southern miscues in the bottom of the first and scored three runs in the inning.  Darren Farmer and Korey Hall both recorded RBI's in the first inning and the Tigers were up 3-2 after one complete.

The bats of both teams would remain quiet until the third inning when TSU scored a run to tie the score at three.

The Tigers would play some amazing defense and TSU kept the Tigers scoreless until the eighth inning, when Jose Longoria hit a moon shot for a home run and the Tigers would take the lead for good at 4-3.     

The Tigers finished the game with four runs off of six hits and one error.  Texas Southern had three runs off of nine hits and one error.  Richard Bautista got the win and he is now 4-3 on the season.  Cory Jordan recorded his second save of the season.

In game two the Tigers started out on fire as they held TSU scoreless and put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning off of hits from Korey Hall, who had two RBI's, Juan Bueno, Darren Farmer and Elias Todman, who all had an RBI each in that inning.

Texas Southern would own innings two through seven as they would score in each of those innings with the exception of the sixth inning.  TSU would take an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning when the bats of the Tigers would start to heat up.

The Tigers scored one run in the seventh and one in the eighth inning to get bring the Tigers within one run at 8-7 in the ninth inning.  In the bottom of the ninth TSU collected two quick outs when Darren Farmer and Korey Hall would get back to back singles.  With two men aboard Elias Todman came to the plate and grounded out to second and Texas Southern won by the score of 8-7.

The Tigers had seven runs off of eleven hits and three errors, while Texas Southern had eight runs off of nine hits and one error.

The Tigers will complete the three game series tomorrow against Texas Southern.  The first pitch at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park is at 1 p.m.
