Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, Louisiana (March 9, 2013) – It was typical double header between Grambling State University and the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. The two teams split a pair of games, in which both contests were decided by one run.
In game one the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and went on to defeat UAPB by the score of 6-5. The Tigers scored three runs in the first two innings behind some great hitting from
Jose Longoria. He hit singles in back to back innings and had two RBI's as the Tigers went up 3-0 after the second inning.
UAPB put two runs on the board in the fourth inning after a two run home run making the score 3-2 Tigers. Both teams would remain scoreless until the seventh inning, when UAPB scored three runs to go up 5-3.
The Tigers would dig in and the bats would catch fire in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Korey Hall reached on a fielder's choice early in the bottom of the seventh.
Juan Bueno scored in the Tiger half of the seventh to tie the score at five.
Korey Hall would come into score after a sacrifice bunt and Tigers would take the lead for good and go on to win 6-5.
GSU had six runs off of eight hits and no errors in game one. UAPB had five runs off of ten hits and three errors.
Matt Mitchell picked up the win for the Tigers.
In game two the Tigers and the Golden Lions had a spirited game. The Tigers came up a little short to UAPB in game two losing by the score of 7-6.
UAPB jumped out in front early in the game as they scored the first four runs of the game in the second and third innings.
Brandon Kiser would blast a three run home run in the bottom of the third inning to bring the Tigers within one run at 4-3 UAPB.
Duane Hysmith would get an RBI for UAPB in the top of the fifth inning to go up by two runs 5-3.
Juan Bueno would hit a home run for Grambling and the Tigers would only trail by a run again at 5-4.Wilton Guzmon, who came in to pinch hit, hit a two run RBI single to put UAPB up 7-4 in the top of the eighth inning.
The Tigers would try to make another come back in the top of the ninth inning. GSU would score two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as they lose a tough, hard fought game to UAPB 7-6.
The Tigers were led at the plate by
Brandon Kiser, who was three for four at the plate.
Edwin Drexler was two for four at the plate for GSU. The Tigers had a total of six runs off of nine hits and one error. UAPB had seven runs off of 13 hits and three errors. The Tigers will face UAPB at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.
