Tiger Baseball Team Splits Double Header With UAPB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, Louisiana (April 13, 2013) –The Grambling State University Tiger Baseball team split a double-header with the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff  in one of the most difficult places to play in the SWAC.  In game one the Tigers lost by the score of 6-4 and in game two the Tigers shutout the Golden Lions by the score of 3-0.
 
In game one the Golden Lions would get on the board first as they would get two hits in the inning scoring a run taking the early 1-0 lead.
 
The Tigers would then score two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  After a single by Juan Bueno and Jose Longoria getting on base, Darren Farmer hit a base clearing triple making the score 2-0 Tigers. 
 
In the bottom of that inning the Golden Lions would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 4-2 Golden Lions.  UAPB would later score one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to make the score 6-2 UAPB.
 
The Tigers would mount a comeback in the top of the ninth inning when Brandon Kiser walked and Elias Todman hit an RBI double making the score 6-3.  Later, Korey Hall would hit an RBI single bringing in Todman from second base making the score 6-4.  That would be as close as the Tigers would get in the first game.
 
For the game the Tigers had four runs off of five hits and one error.  The Golden Lions got six runs off of seven hits and an error, Jim Ploegar picked up the win for UAPB, while Brock Baker got the loss and is now 2-3. 
 
In game two the Tigers relied on great pitching and defense to pull out a 3-0 shutout against UAPB.  Kris Minter, Jose Longoria and Darren Farmer all had two hits in the game, and Minter had two RBI in the contest.  While they help to provide the offense, Matt Mitchell pitched eight brilliant innings striking out six batters and only giving up two hits.  Zach Moreau would come in to close the game in the ninth inning and only give up one hit.
The Tigers had three runs off of six hits and two errors, while the Golden Lions had zero runs off of three hits and no errors.  Matt Mitchell picked up the win and jaron Gold got the loss for UAPB.
 
The Tiger baseball team will complete the three game series on Sunday in Pine Bluff at 3 p.m.  GSU will face UAPB on Monday evening at 5 p.m. in Grambling to make-up a game that was rained out last month.  The game wil
