GSU Baseball Drops a Tough Eleventh Inning Thriller to ULM

Box Score GRAMBLING, Louisiana (April 2, 2013) – The Grambling State University (GSU) Tiger baseball team lost a tough game to the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at Warhawk Field in Monroe, Louisiana.

The Tigers got on the board early as Jose Longoria got on base with a double in the top of the first inning and later scored on  a hit from Dionte Mandledove; making the score 1-0 Grambling.  

After a walk by Edwin Drexler in the top of the fifth inning, Longoria hit a sacrifice bunt scoring Drexler from third and the Tigers took a 2-0 lead. 

ULM slid on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Brandon Alexander scored on of an RBI single by Corben Green cutting the score to 2-1.  Pitching for the Tigers tighten up for the remainder of the inning and did not allow any more runs to come across the plate, holding onto a one run advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh inning ULM's Trent Lucas hit a home run just over the right field wall tying the score at two.
The bats of the Warhawks would continue to spray the ball around the field in the bottom of the eighth inning, but some tremendous defense by the Tigers kept the Warhawks off the scoreboard.

In extra innings, both teams went back and forth not giving up any real ground.  The Grambling pitching kept runners off the bags in the tenth inning.  In the eleventh inning ULM would get a single into right field and Green scored from second winning the game for the Warhawks 3-2

The Tigers had two runs on nine hits and one error.   ULM finished the game with three runs on ten hits with no errors.  The winning pitcher was Tyler Bray for ULM and the losing pitcher was Zach Moreau for Grambling.

The Tigers will have a pivotal three game series this weekend as they will face Prairie View A& M, who is currently in first place in the western division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.  The double header on Saturday will begin at noon, while the rubber game of the match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
