GRAMBLING, Louisiana (April 5, 2013) – The GSU Tiger baseball team will welcome Prairie View A&M University for a three game series this weekend. The double header on Saturday will begin at noon and the final game of the series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tigers come into the game after a tough loss to ULM on Tuesday by the score of 3-2. The Tigers played great defense, but gave up a couple of runs in the later innings and then a run in the bottom of the 11
th inning.
Coming into the series the Tigers are two games behind UAPB in the loss column, but both teams have four wins. Prairie View comes into the game in first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference western division. The Tigers lost the series at Prairie View in March two games to one and will need a sweep to take the lead over the Panthers in the win column in what is going to be a tightly contested SWAC Western divisional race.
The Tigers are currently third in the SWAC in batting average hitting .264 on the year with six home runs and they will be going against one of the best pitching staffs in the SWAC in Prairie View A&M, who currently has a team ERA of 4.40. The Tigers have several weapons of their own, which includes
Dionte Mandeldove, who currently in third in the SWAC in hitting batting .386 on the season and
Juan Bueno, who is tied for 4
th in the SWAC with 33 hits on the season.
This will be the last home series that the Tigers will have for while, as they will hit the road for an eight game road trip starting next week.
