GRAMBLING, La (April 9, 2013) - Grambling State University Baseball Outfielder
Darren Farmer has earned Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the week for his performance in four games last week.
“Farmer really showed up big for us this week,” said Head Coach
James Cooper. “He hit ball extremely well and did a great job in paying attention on the bags to get us some big runs”
Farmer, a senior from Bailey, Mississippi, finished 8-for-12 at the plate to help Grambling State sweep its SWAC three-game series against then divisional leader Prairie View A&M. He bolted a .667 batting average against the Panthers going 3-for-4 in the 10-0 win in game one, which included a triple, a run and an RBI.
He followed game one by going 2-for-5 at the plate and recorded two-RBI to help the Tigers grab the 9-1 win to close Saturday's doubleheader. He hit his second triple of the series during game two.
To sweep the series, Farmer hit 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored. He also had an RBI in game three.
For the week he was 9-17 (.529) combined with a midweek match up at ULM. Against both teams in four games played, he totaled three doubles, two triples, six runs scored and four RBI.
This week the Tigers will hit the road as they will face Central Arkansas tonight and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff this weekend.
