Box Score The Grambling State University Tiger football team lost a tough game to Lincoln University 47-34 Saturday night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
The Tigers would cough the ball up early in the game as Justus Schulte would sack
D.J. Williams and force a fumble recovered by Lincoln University deep in Grambling territory. The GSU defense would hold strong, but Lincoln got on the board first when Andrew Fishel hit a 40 yard field goal with 12:33 left in the first quarter and the Blue Tigers would take an early 3-0 lead.
Lincoln would strike again in the opening stanza as Morris Henderson had a 41 yard touchdown run with 4:55 left. The PAT would make the score 10-0 Lincoln.
Lincoln would score one more time in the first quarter as Percy Turner would scamper for a 51 yard touchdown. The extra point made the score 16-0 after the first quarter.
The Tigers would regroup and get on the board in the second quarter.
D.J. Williams would have his longest completion of the game to
Chester Rogers that would cover 44 yards. It would eventually set up running back
Jestin Kelly, who would score from 8 yards out and the Tigers cut the deficit to 16-7.
Morris Henderson would take the ensuing kickoff back 102 yards for the score with 7:12 left in the first half and Lincoln would go up by the score of 23-7.
D.J. Williams would pass for 54 yards on the next drive completing passes to
Anthony McGhee and
Chester Rogers, who would eventually score from 7 yards out making the score 23-14 at the half.
Lincoln would strike first in the third quarter as Morris Henderson would earn his third touchdown of the day on a 44 yard rush making the score 30-14 Lincoln.
There would be no quit in the Tigers as
Jestin Kelly, who rushed for 83 yards in the first half, would score his second touchdown of the day on a 9 yard run with 8:38 left in the third quarter making the score 30-21 Lincoln.
After a 64 yard pass completion by Jacob Morris to Morris Henderson, Morris would call his own number by eluding an aggressive Tiger defense and scoring from 11 yards out making the score 37-21 Lincoln.
Lincoln would strike again with 12:40 left in the fourth quarter after a 13 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Morris to Khirey Draine making the score 44-21 Lincoln.
The Tigers would score in the fourth quarter as
D.J. Williams would hit
Dominique Leake for a 38 yard touchdown strike with 10:42 left in the game making the score 44-27 Lincoln.
The Tigers will get back into Southwestern Athletic Conference play next weekend as they will face Alabama State University. Kick off time in Montgomery will be at 5 p.m.
