Box Score Montgomery, Al (September 21, 2013) - The Grambling State University Tigers lost a tough game to the Alabama State University Hornets by the score of 52-21 Saturday night at ASU Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Tigers struck first Junior quarterback
D.J. Williams hooked up with
Chester Rogers for a 66 yard touchdown strike making the score 7-0 Grambling. The Tigers scored quickly as they only used 1:18 off of the clock.Â
The Hornets would own the rest of the half. The Hornets tied the score at 7-7 when Malcolm Cyrus rushed into the endzone from 5 yards out capping off a 7 play 45 yard drive and only using 2:16 off of the clock.
The Hornets would score three times in the second quarter. Daniel Duhart would complete a 28 yard touchdown pass to Myles Everett making the score 14-7. Running back Isaiah Crowell would complete a 10 play 79 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run with 2:39 left in the extend the Hornet lead to 21-7. Just 39 seconds later Daer Washington intercepted a
D.J. Williams pass and return it 19yards for the touchdown to make the score 28-7 at the half.
The Tigers started a second half scoring 14 unanswered points. Junior quarterback D.J.
Williams completed a 23 yard touchdown pass to
Anthony McGhee with 8:14 left in the 3
rd quarter to make the score 28-14. The Tigers would score again in the third quarter as the combination of Williams and McGhee would hook up again, this time on a 9 yard touchdown strike cutting the deficit to 28-21.
Alabama State would come back and put up three consecutive Touchdown drives. Malcolm Cyruss would score his second touchdown of the day as he would score from 26 yards out capping off a 6 play 76 yard drive. The PAT would make the score 35-21.Â
Isaiah Crowell scored early in the fourth quarter for the Hornets as he rushed for a 28 yard touchdown to extend the Alabama State lead to 42-21. The Hornets would then score again as they continued to work the ground game and would score again as Arsenio Favor would score from 4 yards out making the game 49-21 Alabama State.
Bobby Wenzig would hit a field goal late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 52-21 Alabama State.
Offensively for the Tigers,
Chester Rogers had another 100 yard performance. He had had six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown.Â
Anthony McGhee finished the game with six catches 79 yards and two touchdowns.Â
The Tigers will return home for their second home game of the season as they will host Lamar University. Gametime at Robinson Stadium will be at 6 p.m.
