Tigers Reign Supreme Against Alcorn State University

Grambling- The Grambling State University Tiger's reign supreme yesterday in its home game opener against highly undefeated Alcorn State University. The Tigers (4-3, 4-0) are now the No. 1 team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference after defeating the Alcorn State University Braves (5-2, 3-1) with a final score of 28-21 yesterday in Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.

Coming into the game, the Tigers knew that they were about to embark on a tough journey. The Braves were 5-1 overall and were known for scoring in the high double digits each game this season. It was also noted that the Braves never allowed their opponents to score over 16 points in a single games they have played this season.

Grambling State had an early lead in the first quarter on a pair of rushing touchdowns by Johnathan Williams and Cedric Skinner to take a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Grambling extended their lead to 21-0 on a 22-yard pass from Williams to Ka'Jand Domino at the 12:08 mark.

The Braves scored just before the half on a fake field goal pass from Zerick Rollins to Alondrea Young for a five-yard touchdown narrowing the lead to 21-7.

The Braves were unsuccessful after the half on their first possession and Grambling took advantage of the opportunities.  Williams scored his second rushing touchdown of the day from two yards out to make the score 28-7 with 2:07 to play in the third quarter.

On a four game winning streak and defeating the Braves for the third time in a row at the Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium, the Tigers will take on the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions next Saturday for Homecoming. The Lions are 1-4 overall and recently lost to the Southern Jaguars last week (51-36). Kickoff is set at 2 p.m.
