Tigers Reign Supreme Against Mississippi Valley State University

Box Score Itta Bena, Miss.– Grambling State University Tigers (7-0) continued their winning streak in conference play after last night's 38-23 victory over the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils (1-7) in the Rice-Totten Stadium. Though Grambling finished with another win, the Tigers had to play catch up after the Delta Devils' offense came out hard by scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter.
 
The Tigers however, came back with 21 points in the second quarter. This gave Grambling a 21-14 lead at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the Tigers' defense continued to stop the Delta Devils from scoring. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Delta Devils were able to put some points up on the board. During the last quarter, Mississippi Valley scored nine points while Grambling scored 10.
 
Grambling's starting quarterback Johnathan Williams finished the game with 382 passing yards, four touchdowns and one sack. He also rushed 42 yards off of 7 carries. Another Tiger offensive leader was No. 2 Verlon Hunter. He finished the game with one touchdown off of a 35-yard pass from Williams in the second quarter. Hunter, a Mansfield native, had 131 yards off of four receptions– averaging at least 32 yards a catch.
 
The defensive leaders of the game for Grambling were No. 91 Donovan McCray, No. 15 Steve Orisakwe and No. 59 Aaron Breed Jr. McCray finished with seven solo tackles, two sacks for a loss of nine yards and three tackles for a loss of 10 yards. Orisakwe had seven tackles (four solo and three assisted), 2.5 sacks for a loss of 14 yards and 4 tackles for a loss of 16 yards. Breed had six solo tackles, 2 sacks for the loss of 11 yards and three tackles for the loss of 12 yards.
 
The Tigers will now prepare for their next opponent, Alabama State University (3-4).  This will be the Tigers' final home game of the season and Senior Day. Kickoff is set at 2 p.m. in the Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.
