Tigers Drop 6-5 Decision to Prairie View A & M

Game One of Doubleheader Goes to the Panthers

Grambling, La. (March 8, 2014) The Grambling State University Tigers' baseball team dropped the series opener to the Panthers' of Prairie View A & M University 6-5.
 
Prairie View got on the board first in the top of the first inning with an RBI by Grant Dogherty as his single brought Greg Salcido across home plate.  In the bottom of the first, Kris Minter tripled and waited to cruise home. His chance came on a sacrifice by Juan Bueno, two plays later.
 
The second inning saw both teams remain scoreless, however Prairie View pulled ahead by three with two runs in the third and one on the fourth. Grambling would not see another runner cross home plate until the fifth.  Justin Marzett skidded in on a single by Minter.
 
GSU found home again in the sixth with a run by Bueno. He scored on a sacrifice by Roger Diaz. In the seventh inning the Panthers scored their last two runs of the contest. In the bottom of the seventh the Tigers Travaurs Bell singled; Yariel Medina landed a homer over the leftfield wall, bringing in Bell to finish scoring for the contest.
 
Edvaradas Matusevicius, pitched six innings, giving up nine hits, five runs and two walks en route to taking the loss on the mound for GSU.
 
Game two is being played today and the rubber game will be played at 1:00 PM on March 9, 2014.
