HOUSTON, Texas – The Lady Hornets of Alabama State defeated the Lady Tigers 65-62 in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament Thursday.
Grambling opened up the beginning of the game trailing the Lady Hornets 4- 10, with consistent turnovers from ASU it began to be costly for the Lady Hornets as Grambling was able to take a 39-34 lead going into the half.  The team shot 57 percent in three point field goals and 52 percent from the paint. Freshman guard Bre'Nae Andrews led the Lady Tigers securing 14 points followed by Monisha Neal contributing 11 points. On the boards, Yosha Watson led the team with five rebounds in the first half and also chipped in 2 points.

"I am very proud of my girls; they played with all they had. What more can you ask for?" said Head Coach Nadine Domond.

The second half saw the Lady Tigers come out on a 5-0 run expanding the lead to 18 points.  Alabama State went on a run at the 4:00 minuet mark of the game outscoring the Lady Tigers and taking the eventual lead (63-60).  Chelsey Johnson took a final jump shot from the elbow for the Lady Tigers with seconds left on the clock, but the shot rimmed out and ASU's Britney Wright grabbed the rebound and a foul was called in the floor with 0:06 remaining not in Grambling's favor. Wright knocked down both free throws and the season came to an end for the Lady Tigers.
Britney Wright scored a game high of 24 points and fourteen rebounds between both teams.  Jasmine Peeples tacked on 11 points and ten rebounds.  Shamyiah Smith had a career high of six assists and four steals for the Lady Hornets.

The Lady Tigers are preparing for the 2015-2016 season with great optimism and the return of a very young and now seasoned Lady Tiger team with head coach Nadine Domond at the helm leading the ladies with more insight.
