Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, La. --- The Grambling State University Tigers baseball team took the field as the home team at R.W.E. Jones Park on Friday afternoon for the first time in weeks, as they looked to tame the visiting Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Despite being back in familiar territory on the diamond, GSU fell to UAPB in both games, 3-7 and 7-9.
Contrary to the score line for the first game, Grambling State looked like they had every shot at winning the opening contest, as they headed into the third inning tied at two with their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival. A five-run top of the sixth would quickly turn the ball game on it's head though, as the visitors would cruise through the final three innings for the victory.
Larry Barraza recorded a home run in the bottom of the sixth for GSU and
Andre Wilson pitched six innings in the loss.
The two teams wasted little time in hitting the field for their second game of the day, one that had similar results for the home squad. The visitors from UAPB would use a four-run first inning and a five-run fourth inning to bust the game open early, but GSU answered with
Larry Barraza hitting a home run in the bottom of the second making it a one point game. Grambling would bring another run across in the fifth inning with
Angel Peguero hitting a home run adding two addition points for the tigers.
Ike O'Bear pitched three innings for Grambling State in the loss.
The two teams will hit the diamond again Sunday as they play the third and final game of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm at R.W.E. Jones Park.
