Tigers Drop Conference Competition to Texas Southern University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 GRAMBLING, La. – The Grambling State University Tigers baseball team took the field as the home team at R.W.E. Jones Park on Saturday afternoon, as they looked to tame the visiting Tigers of Texas Southern University. Despite being back in familiar territory on the diamond, GSU dropped a 1-2 decision this weekend.
 
Texas Southern University took both games of the double, 2-9 and 4-11. Grambling State University secured the final victory of the series 8-7 on Sunday.
 
Game One:
 
Grambling State started the scoring in the fourth and fifth innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Larry Barraza secured the point for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth inning, hitting a home run and recording a runner batted in. In the bottom of the fifth, Larry Barraza's single secured the final point of the competition for Grambling State to bring home Edwin Drexler. TSU responded with nine runs in the top of the sixth. The final three innings remained scoreless for both teams.
 
Game Two:

Grambling and Texas Southern went into game two ready to play, but the outcome was in favor of TSU. The GSU Tigers secured an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Roger Diaz's single brought home Larry Barraza and Robert Lopez, recording two runners batted in.  Yariel Medina also singled, bringing home Roger Diaz and Tray Bell, securing GSU's final two points of the competition. The visiting Tigers added seven points in the top of the second inning making it a three-point game. The GSU Tigers couldn't hold off TSU, who answered with four more points in the remaining seven innings of the competition, securing the victory 11-4.
 
Game Three:
 
Angel Peugero's steal to home plate gave the GSU Tigers a 1-0 lead. Tray Bell singled, bringing home Larry Barraza, making the score 2-0 in favor of Grambling. Texas Southern started to put points on the board, adding four in the top of the fourth inning and securing a 4-2 lead. The Grambling Tigers answered by adding one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, making it a one-point game.


In the bottom of the fifth inning, Remon Grant singled, bringing home Dylan Spearman and recording a runner batted in. Larry Barraza secured another point for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a home run and recording a runner batted in, making the score 7-5. The GSU Tigers never gave up in the bottom of the seventh inning. Remon Grant hit a home run which brought in Dee Brown, recording two runners batted in and tying the game. Angel Peugero tripled, bringing home Edwin Drexler, recording a runner batted in and securing the victory for the GSU Tigers 8-7.

 Next, The GSU Tigers will host Jarvis Christian College on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 p.m.
