iTTA BENA, Miss. (Women's volleyball) -- After struggling in their last outing, Coach
Demetria Keys-Johnson and the Grambling State University Lady Tiger volleyball team pulled out a win over Mississippi Valley State University on Friday in Itta Bena, Miss. GSU took the match, 3-1, with scores of 25-11, 28-26, 21-25, and 25-21.
With the win, Grambling improves to 5-9, overall, and 3-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. MVSU drops to 2-16 on the season and 0-8 in league play.
Kevreion Ward had as amazing nice for the Lady Tigers as she accounted for 16 kills and six blocks. Ward was followed by
Chasity Nicks with 11 kills and
Javienna Jones with four blocks. Nicks was also great in the serving position for Grambling posting four service aces.
L'Muriell Thrower kept the table set with 20 assists. Defensively,
Alleeyah Hensley finished the game with 19 digs.
As a team, GSU finished the night with 66 digs, 47 kills, 44 assists, 20 block assists, and seven service aces.
For the Devilettes, Kalin Barnes had a game-high 17 kills. Illiya Trahan scored two service aces on the night. Brooklyn Hudson was the assist leader for Mississippi Valley with 31. MVSU's defense was anchored by Nadia Crawford with 17 digs.
Collectively, the Devilettes finished the night with 68 digs, 43 kills, 40 assists, and three service aces.
The Lady Tigers continue their Mississippi road trip as they go to Jackson State University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
