GRAMBLING, La. (Football) -- The Grambling State University Tiger football sealed the 2016 Homecoming game another win as they dominated the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a 70-0 victory.Grambling maintains its undefeated title with a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) of record (5-0) while Arkansas-Pine Bluff sits at (1-5).
The G-Men started the first quarter strong defensively giving the Golden Lions a hard time getting to the end zone. Arkansas-Pine Bluff continued to struggle offensively leaving them scoreless the entire quarter. Grambling scored on their first offensive play with a 70-yard pass from quarterback DeVante Kincade to senior wide receiver
Chad Williams. The G-Men continued to pull apart the Lions defense and create great momentum to carry them into the second quarter. GSU finished the first with a total of 188 passing yards verses the Lions 71 total passing yards. The score was 14-0.
The G-Men defense went into the second quarter with even more strength and energy as they continued to keep UAPB out of the end zone. The Golden Lions had multiple penalties that hindered them from gaining any momentum offensively. Gramlilng did not slack up and continued to make the Golden Lions pay. At the 12:08 mark, Kincade found freshman tight end
Jordan Jones with a 5-yard pass for a touchdown. Senior linebacker
Arkez Cooper was able to convert with a 22-yard interception return for GSU, spreading the lead to 35-0 with 4:36 left in the half. Kincade continued to make things happen with two touchdown passes to senior wide receiver
Dominique Leakes that added up to a total 108 yards. Grambling headed into the locker room with a convincing 42-0 lead.
The third quarter was slow for both teams, but the G-Men were able to score two touchdowns before it ended. Kincaid hit Williams once again with a 56-yard pass for the touchdown. Senior running back
Jestin Kelly got in the end zone with a 9-yard run with 5:13 left in the quarter. Grambling was up 56-0 at the end of the third. The Golden Lions had nothing left to give in the fourth quarter as the G-Men sealed the game with two touchdowns from sophomore
Charles Wright. Wright made it to the end zone with two 18-yard runs. Grambling finished the game with a score of 70-0.
"It was a total team effort and that was the best performance that I've ever witnessed from a football team that I've coached", said head coach
Broderick Fobbs. "Total, total domination. This is an A plus performance by my football team and coaching staff."
Kincade finished with 6 touchdown passes equating to 457 passing yards. Williams had 236 receiving yards. Junior defensive lineman
Donovan McCray led the G-Men defense with 7 tackles. Junior defensive back
Ja'Terious Pouncey contributed 6 tackles.
The G-Men will continue their SWAC play against Alabama A&M on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m as the team travels to Huntsville, Ala.
