SHREVEPORT, La. (Football) – For the second time, the Grambling State University Tiger football team steamrolled the Alabama State University Hornets in the 2016 Red River Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers swatted the Hornets, 21-0, and improved their record to 7-1 and 7-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Alabama State falls to 3-7, overall, and 3-6 in conference play.
GSU also recognized 19 seniors played their last "home" game for the Tigers. The seniors were:

Trey Goins (offensive lineman),
Verlan Hunter (wide receiver),
Jameel Jackson (defensive back),
Jestin Kelly (running back), Devaughn Madise (defensive lineman),
Dominique Leake (wide receiver),
Donovan McCray (defensive lineman),
Justin Miller (offensive lineman),
Tyler Olivier (defensive back),
Samuel Reese (defensive lineman),
Guy Stallworth (defensive back),
Jonathan Wallace (kicker/punter),
Byron Williams (long snapper/offensive line), Chad Williams (wide receiver),
Jonathan Williams (wide receiver), and Blain Winston (defensive lineman).
Grambling got on the scoreboard first with 10:51 left in the first quarter when DeVante Kincade completed a pass to
Verlan Hunter for 16 yards.
Jonathan Wallace made the point after attempt to make the score, 7-0. The Tigers found the end zone against as
Martez Carter dashed two yards for a touchdown and Wallace drilled the extra point through the uprights with 5:59 left in the quarter, 14-0.
For the second and third quarter, GSU and the Hornets were at a dead lock as both offenses failed to find the red zone or the end zone.
The Tigers would score the final touchdown of the game with 51 seconds left in the game. Back up quarterback
Trevon Cherry hit
Chad Williams for a 43 yard touchdown and Wallace made the point after try to set the score at 21-0.
Kincade ended the day going 12-of-23 with one interception for 113 yards and one touchdown. Cherry was 1-of-1 for 43 yards and one touchdown. Williams led the Grambling receiving corps with 10 catches for 145 yards and one touchdown.
Jestin Kelly was the leading rusher with 12 carries for 60 yards. Defensively,
De'Arius Christmas kept the Hornets at bay with seven total tackles.
Ju Young-Battle finished the game going 16-of-31 for 162 yards and was sacked six times. Khalid Thomas led the running backs with 16 carries for 60 yards. Alabama State was led in receiving by Nygel Lee with seven receptions for 108 yards. Darron Johnson led ASU, defensively, with seven total tackles, one tackle for loss of three yards, and one pass break up.
GSU will take the show to Houston to face Texas Southern University on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
