A bunch of young men donned the black and gold Tuesday (March 22) as they represented Grambling State University during drills and competitions at Pro Day 2016 activities in front of scouts from the National Football League and the Canadian Football League.

Former G-Men lacing up their shoes and showing what they can do on game days were defensive linemen Larry Stallings and JaVonta Williams, tight end Christopher Bazile, wide receiver Chester Rogers and quarterback Johnathan Williams. The last time this group was together on a football field was the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game in Houston, Texas. GSU suffered a 42-21 defeat to Alcorn State University, but the team had an incredible season with a 9-1 SWAC record as they won the title of SWAC Western Division champs.

Rogers, of Huntsville, Alabama, was looking forward to being on the field again with his former teammates. "It feels good."

The G-Men joined 15 former Louisiana Tech players at Joe Aillet Stadium with hopes to impress and showcase their individual talents with scouts from all 32 NFL teams watching closely.

After the initial weigh-in and bench press, players went through timing drills and assessments, including the broad jump, vertical jump and 40-yard dash.

Of the five, Rogers, ranked as the third top wide receiver in the country by the FCS Draft Board,  completed the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.46 seconds and cleared 10 feet in the broad jumpt. "I feel great about everything," he said. "I was able to showcase what I can do."

Five miles down the road on the campus at Grambling State, six more G-Men participated in a number of events while being looked upon by representatives of the Canadian Football League.

Cornerback Dwight Amphy, receiver Ka'Jandre Domino, defensive lineman Jamison Goins, defensive end Michael Jolivet, defensive back Nicholas Peoples and linebacker Troy Roach showed their best skills, including a few notable moves by Amphy and Peoples. While being marked for the broad jump, Amphy, of Monroe, leaped an impressive 10 feet eight inches while Peoples, a product of Shreveport's Byrd High School, exploded from his stance to clear 10 feet and two inches.

There is no set timetable for football players to hear from a team scout or another representative. They might be invited to visit, selected to join a practice squad, or make the draft. These G-Men are hoping for the best.
