RUSTON, La. (Soccer) -- The Grambling State University Lady Tiger soccer team will open their season on the road to face Louisiana Tech University on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
GSU looks to bounce back from the 2015 campaign that saw the team finish with an overall record of 2-11 and a Southwestern Athletic Conference record of 2-8. The Lady Tigers return much of last year's line up with the exception of
Ciara Dawson and bring in seven new faces.
Top returners for Grambling include Jamila Davis,
Savannah John,
Helen Ayim, and
Jennifer LeSage. Davis and John each finished the season with two goals. LeSage proved to be a human wall in the net for GSU with 54 saves over the season.
In this first game of the season, Grambling will have to contend with the Lady Techsters who are currently 2-1-1, overall. In their first four matches, the Bulldogs have scored 1.75 goals per game with many of the goals being scored in the second half of regulation. The Lady Tigers will have to contain Kathryn Sloan who is playing very well for Louisiana Tech. Sloan has recorded eight points, three goals and two assists in four matches this season.
"It's definitely a good test for us, because Louisiana Tech is a good team and we're excited to start off the season. It will be a challenging game but it is also what we are looking forward to it. We are getting well prepared for it," said Coach Totty O. Totty about the contest.
