Box Score Ruston, La. (Women's Soccer) —The Grambling State University women's soccer team kicked off their 2016 campaign off with 9-0 loss to crosstown foe the Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters on Tuesday night at the Lady Techsters soccer field.
With the loss Grambling State drops to 0-1, overall, and Louisiana Tech moves to 3-1-1.
"Coming into tonight, we knew it was going to be a tough game but Tech is a good team. We were able to see areas we need to improve on, especially ball handling and ball possession. So we're going to work on those areas," said Head coach Totty Totty.
Lady Tigers junior goal keeper, Jennifer LeSage was a bright spot with eights saves. She stopped four on target shots in the first half and four in the second half. LeSage had 43 saves in league play last season and ranked sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). She was five saves away of her career record of 13 saves against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 30, 2015.
"The number of goals didn't reflect how well she played. She definitely showed out and did well. That is one of the areas that we did well," beamed Coach Totty.
The Lady Tigers will host their home opener Sunday September 4th at 1pm against Nichollas State University at the GSU soccer complex in Grambling, La.
