HAWKINS, Texas (Women's Volleyball) -- Coach
Demetria Keys-Johnson and the Grambling State University Lady Tigers women's volleyball team took their show on the road on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup with Jarvis Christian College. The Lady Tigers were pushed to five sets but came out with the win over the Lady Bulldogs, 3-2.
With the win, Grambling moves to 2-4, overall, and Jarvis Christian drops to 9-10.
Chasity Nicks led the way for the Lady Tigers with a team high 14 kills and three service aces. Nicks was followed by
Kitagbe Cisse with 12 kills and Javiennt Jones with 11 kills.
Diemend Richardson kept the table set for the Grambling with 21 assists. Defensively,
Alleeyah Hensley was huge in the back row as she recorded 17 digs.
As a team, the Lady Tigers finished the match with 54 kills, 49 digs, 46 assists, 11 total team blocks, and five service aces.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Justus Spriggs and Talicia Lang tallied 11 kills apiece. Kandice Jackson led the way in assists for Jarvis Christian with 18. Jamesha Hutton and Jackson accounted for three service aces each. Lang was the defensive leader for JCC with 12 digs and two solo blocks on the night.
Collectively, the Lady Bulldogs ended the night with 60 digs, 45 kills, 33 assists, nine service aces, and nine total team blocks.
Grambling will be in action again on Friday at 3 p.m. as they host Alabama State University and on Saturday at 2 p.m. as they host Alabama A&M University.
