GRAMBLING, La. (Football) -- The Grambling State University Tigers football team will travel to Tuscon, Arizona this week to play the University of Arizona Wildcats.
The Tigers (0-0) led by head Coach
Broderick Fobbs, were able to secure a win last Saturday in their home season opener against Virginia University of Lynchburg; final score of the game was 72-12.
Taking the field on the offensive side for the Tigers will be starting quarterback
Devante Kincade, who now has four touchdowns (two passing) under his belt, running back
Martez Carter and wide receiver
Verlan Hunter. Defensive back
Guy Stallworth will line up with teammates linebacker
Arkez Cooper and defensive back
Derrick Dixon.
The Wildcats (0-1) were defeated, 18-16, this past weekend against Brigham Young University. Head coach Rich Rodriguez and his team could not use any of their best offensive skills in the first half of the game; the team didn't put points on the board until the third quarter, a 46-yard field goal. Delayed points in a game for the other team would be a great advantage for Coach Fobbs and the Tigers, also known as the G-Men who showed explosive athleticism in just the first quarter against their opponents last weekend when five touchdowns were scored.
This will be the first meeting of the Tigers and the Wildcats. Two offensive players to keep an eye on at this game will be Carter from Grambling and Nick Wilson from the University of Arizona. The two running backs have no problem when it comes to getting down the field after connecting with the ball. On the defensive side, if players Stallworth and Cooper from the Tigers and Paul Magloire, Jr. along with teammate Dane Cruikshank from Arizona can work hand in hand with one another, there will be quite a game to watch.
Kickoff is slated for 7:45 p.m. Mountain Time (9:45 p.m. CT)
