The Lady Tigers Will Face Defending SWAC Champs Alabama State in Conference Opener

Last year SWAC-Semi Final match ended in a 50-64 lost.

Montgomery, AL -  The Grambling State Lady Tigers head into conference play 2-9, after defeating Southeastern Louisiana University 89-71, in their final non-conference contest of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Lady Tigers' opening conference opponent are the weary Lady Hornets of Alabama State University. Entering today's match-up ASU holds a 1-9 record, of which they are eager to improve upon.

This contest also serves as a rematch of last year's SWAC final semifinal match-up,with GSU falling 60-54. During the regular season the two split the series 1-1.

"They're the defending SWAC Champions and they're not going to lay down and give it to us. We've been preparing for conference all season and they've known for months who we opened up with so, wasn't much I had to say to get them mentally prepared," said Head Coach Murray.

The Lady Tigers will have to perform without starting forward Jazmine Torian due to illness, who is averages 9.1 ppg.,and 6.1 rpg. Junior Monisha Neal has a record of 1-5 versus Alabama State and averages 11.6 points per game.

Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Arena in Montgomery, Alabama.
