ITTA BENA, Miss. | Sheyenne Bonnick scored in third minute and the Grambling State University women's soccer team couldn't recover as Mississippi Valley State snapped the Lady Tigers' seven-match unbeaten streak on Friday with a 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory at the MVSU Soccer Field.
"We had three of our shots hit off the crossbar, and couldn't finish anything," Grambling State head coach
Justin Wagar said. "We got outplayed, out hustled by a team that wanted it more today."
The Lady Tigers (8-6-1 overall, 6-1-1 SWAC) registered 10 shots on goal, but none could get past Devilettes goalkeeper Sydney Newport, who notched the shutout victory.
Bonnick netted the game-winner in the third minute off an assist by Laadi Issaka.
Grambling State nearly tied the game in the 76th minute as
Kaylee Holt's shot banged off the post, but that would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get.
